Huzzah! It looks like the slightly depressing saga of Jermaine Beckford’s League One play-off final shirt has reached a happy conclusion.
As you may recall, the shirt caused a bit of a stir last week when eight-year-old Preston fan Ted Dockray was seen having Beckford’s shirt snatched out of his hands by a 31-year-old woman after the striker slung it into the crowd at Wembley.
The woman then reportedly attempted to sell the shirt on Gumtree until she was harassed into taking the listing down by the social media morality army.
Preston then went as far as to emit an official club statement on the matter, with Beckford himself promising to present young Ted with a brand new signed shirt to replace the one he’d had plucked from his grasp.
Three days later, and the youngster was invited along to Deepdale as a special guest so Beckford could do the honours in person…
We’re reliably informed that Ted was also given a VIP tour of Deepdale for good measure.
Wonderful gesture from Beckford and from the club. Now let that be an end to it!
