Paris Saint-Germain have written a letter to M.I.A. after the pop artiste wore an altered version of the club’s shirt in one of her music videos.
The song in question is ‘Borders’, which criticises the treatment of refugees. In the accompanying video, M.I.A. can be seen wearing a PSG replica shirt with the sponsor changed from ‘Fly Emirates’ on the front to ‘Fly Pirates’.
It’s taken them several months, but the PSG owners (the Qatar Investment Authority) have written to the singer to express their “unpleasant surprise” at having the club’s “considerable reputation” called into question.
In a letter penned by deputy CEO Jean Claude Blanc, the Ligue 1 side were also keen to point out their charitable efforts in providing relief and aid for refugees, mainly their €1million donation to Secours Populaire and the UN Refugee Agency.
Blanc also asks M.I.A. to stop broadcasting her video within 24 hours of reception before requesting “compensation for the harm we have suffered.”
