10 Brilliant Classic England vs Brazil Moments To Get Your Juices Flowing

By Chris Wright

Just to get the juices flowing ahead of tonight’s England-Brazil friendly at Wembley tonight (ronaldinho’s confirmed to be starting, we haven’t been this excited about an international football match in ages!) , here’s ten brilliants moments that the fixture has belched forth in the past with which to wet your whistle…

1. John Barnes goal, 1984…

2. Ronaldinho popping a free-kick over David Seaman, 2002…

FLUUUUUUUUUUKE!

3. These photos of Martin Keown attempting to tackle Leonardo…

And sustaining a broken shoulder up in the process

4. England vs Brazil at Wembley (first ever meeting), 1956…

Sir Stanley Matthews, then aged a sprightly 41, providing the assist for Manchester United’s Duncan Edwards and Tommy Taylor straight off the bat here in a 4-2 victory for England – it would prove to be the last time they beat Brazil for nigh-on 30 years

Here’s a photo of the crowd that day…

By eck did they pack ‘em in!

5. Ronaldo’s performance at Wembley, 1995…

In which Senhor Nazario de Lima shows up and quickly ends England’s four-year unbeaten home streak by scoring his second ever international goal in a 3-1 Umbro Cup win

6. Graeme Le Saux’s looping volley in the same game…

It may have only been a consolation, but Le Saux’s 20-yard dipper was definitely the best goal of the game. In fact, it was so good he now spends all his free time trying to recreate it (goal is at 1:35)

7. Jairzinho’s goal, 1970…

8. Gordon Banks’ spectacular save from Pele, 1970…

Never get sick of seeing this little beaut

9. Bobby Moore’s masterful tackle on Jairzinho, 1970…

Excellence in execution

10. This photo, 1970…

During a tournament fraught with racial tension, England captain Bobby Moore exchanges shirts and shakes hands with Pele after the Three Lions were well and truly bested in Guadalajara at the Mexico World Cup
