Inspired by this piece of Panenka penalty wizardry from the Irish amateur leagues, Pies have been dutifully scouring Youtube to bring you our five favourite magisterial Sunday League botches.

5. Jamie misses a sitter…

4. Under zero pressure, this US Acli defender takes his time, spends a moment or two sizing up his options and then proceeds to slice a truly pathetic “clearance” past his own ‘keeper…

3. The very definition of “chopping a player down”…

2. Sam Hanson scores a cracker of an own-goal, and then subs himself straight off…

1. The unaptly named Stonewall FC (who were already 7-0 down at this point, after just 36 minutes!) hold for out as long as possible before ‘Nathan’ finally, after what seems like hours, brings a close to the most feeble goalmouth scramble ever by poking it over the line…

Nice to hear some classic “clear your lines” Sunday League cliches in there for good measure!

If you know of any other clips of particularly farcicle own-goals, misses, punch-ups, horror tackles, etc, from the amateur leagues then please let us know and we’ll happily add them in addendum.
