Reigning champs Houston Dynamo couldn’t score against Becks’ LA Galaxy on opening weekend of the new MLS season. But neither could the Galaxy, so honours even for two of the league’s bigger names. Elsewhere, new boys Toronto flopped, suffering a 2-0 defeat at the hands of CD Chivas, while Chicago Fire downed New England Revolution 1-0. There was also a good start for Colorado Rapids, who beat DC United 2-1. Watch all the goals here [via Climbing the Ladder]:

This was the first time I’d ever seen an MLS game, but I was pretty impressed by the Colorado-DC game. It was about the most passionate soccer I’ve ever seen played by Americans. The LA-Houston draw, by stark contrast, was the most pathetic display I’ve ever seen. Beckham has his work cut out for him at his new club.
