Brazil WCup Top Five Highlights

With the cut-off point for eligible goals being September 26th, FIFA have announced their ten-strong list of nominees for the 2014 Puskas Award, i.e, the most beautiful goal of the year.

We’ve got a couple of World Cup belters from the likes of Tim Cahill, James Rodriguez and Robin van Persie and an obligatory contender from Zlatan as well as a couple of left-field entries from Japan and the Irish Womens’ league.

As per, FIFA aren’t allowing the likes of Pies to embed their fancy official Puskas Award videos, so you’ll have to make do ones we were able to source elsewhere.

In we delve…

1. Tim Cahill, Australia – Netherlands / FIFA World Cup / June 18 2014…

2. Diego Costa, Atletico Madrid – Getafe / Primera Division / November 23 2013…

3. Marco Fabian, Cruz Azul – Puebla / Clausura Mexico / February 15 2014…

4. Zlatan Ibrahimovic, PSG – SC Bastia / Ligue 1 / October 19 2013…

5. Pajtim Kasami, Crystal Palace – Fulham / Premier League / October 21 2013…

6. Steph Roche, Peamount United – Wexford Youths / Bus Eireann National League / October 20 2013…

7. James Rodriguez, Colombia – Uruguay / FIFA World Cup / June 28 2014…

8. Camilo Sanvezzo, Vancouver Whitecaps – Portland Timbers / MLS / October 6 2013…

9. Hisato Sato, Sanfrecce Hiroshima – Kawasaki Frontale / J League / March 8 2014…

10. Robin van Persie, Spain – Netherlands / FIFA World Cup / June 13 2014…

Woof! There be some absolute beauties in there and no mistakin’.

We’re almost entirely certain James Rodriguez is going to take the honours when the winner is announced at the Ballon d’Or gala in mid-January (the shortlist is whittled down to a final three on 1st December), but Pies’ pick of the bunch definitely has to be Patjim Kasami’s volley – that thing is just elemental!

As always, if you’d like to officially vote through FIFA’s official channel, then you can do so here.

If you’d prefer to just tell old uncle Pies who your favourite is, then feel free…
