Top 10 Goals Of The Season, No.1 – Maicon, Juventus v INTER, Serie A
By Ollie Irish
As regular Pies readers will know, in the past couple of weeks we’ve been counting down our top 10 goals of the season. This is the daddy of them all…
Maicon is a right-back. That’s the same position as Lee Dixon and Danny Mills. Incredible.
And in the context of Inter’s season – they really had to win at Juve to retain their Serie A title – Maicon’s goal was GIGANTIC.
I like this goal even more than because it’s not perfect – Maicon almost loses control of the ball but has the skill and athleticism to recover and beat none other than Gigi Buffon, aka the great keeper of our time.
Agree/disagree with our No.1? Let us be having you.

No.6 – Karim Benzema, Deportivo v REAL MADRID, La Liga
No.7 – Lionel Messi, Barcelona V Real Zaragoza, La Liga

I reckon you’ve got the top three in reverse order – Maynard’s goal is certainly better than Maicon’s, and Figueroa’s goal is a once-in-a-generation strike. But these sort of things are always subjective, and you have to feed the Maicon man-crush somehow ;)
Thx for yr comment Dan – well, all three are brilliant. The context of Maicon’s goal – and the fact he’s a frickin right-back – sealed the No.1 spot, just! All subjective though, as you say.
A fine selection, but I think you’ve overlooked a few beauties. Have a look at the goals by Hazard, Mannini and Robben on my blog:

A worthy winner.
It’s just occurred to me as well – if you had started this countdown today instead of a few weeks ago, where would Spain’s second goal against Poland have come? Surely that would at least make the top five, absolutely beautiful football!
spot on.
Called it :-p
pardon me if someone else commented on this, but,
so space for dempsey’s goal against juve?
*no
I was there :D
timmyg— explain to me why dempsey’s goal shouldn’t be in there. you sound so sure of yourself, yet cannot back it up with anything more than just “no”
this was an incredible goal, but dempsey’s is not far behind it at all
#6 & #9 made this list but no dempsey wondergoal…you scared to show a yank some love ollie?

[...] are we to argue? Our man love for Maicon is well documented, after all. He’s certainly good enough to smash the ball home from that [...]
Caio against Bayer Leverkusen. AWESOME!!
