Something for your lunchbreak: every goal scored at the 2010 World Cup.

What struck me is the amount of – er, how to say this – SHIT goals. Like, a lot of close-range rubbish, especially tap-ins after goalkeeping errors. Nice one, Jabulani.

There were a few crackers in there though. My favs, in chronological order:

Siphewe Tshabalala v Mexico – the first goal of the tournament, a lovely counter-attack with a superb finish.

Lukas Podolski v Australia – boom!

Maicon v North Korea – who cares if he meant it, it was spectacular.

Elano v North Korea – wonderful pass by Robinho, cool finish by the former Man City midfielder.

Diego Forlan v South Africa – his first against the hosts, a vicious looping semi-lob.

Valter Birsa v USA – brilliant curling strike by the Slovenian.

Mesut Ozil v Ghana – see Birsa.

Fabio Quagliarella v Slovakia – gorgeous chip. Shame he wasn’t picked earlier by Lippi.

Carlos Tevez v Mexico – his second goal, a brutal shot.

Arne Friedrich v Argentina – lovely assist.

Gio van Bronckhorst v Uruguay – the best goal of the tournament, a long-range screamer.

Diego Forlan v Germany – instinctive finish as he was falling.

  1. Deckard says:

Most spectacular: Gio vs Uruguay(40 odd yards strike, throwback to the 70’s with the likes of Rep and Haan)

Technical masterpiece: Qualiarella vs Slovakia(brilliant composure and skill in a game with everything riding on it)

Best team goal: Podolski vs England(england torn to shreds at the back)

You forgot Suarez vs Korea, the bender!

  3. Chris says:

‘Vicious looping semi-lob’ was my nickname at summer camp.

  4. Jesus says:

Agree about Maicon. Who cares really? Fact is, it was a fantastic goal and if he meant it, was pure genius!

  5. Deckard says:

A close up shows he was looking for someone to cross it too as to fool the keeper. No way would you lash in a cross with such ferocious pace. He meant it IMO.

  6. J says:

How can there be discussion on wether Maicon meant it not. How can people think he’d just miss a cross by 3 meters adding up a out-of-his-line north korean gk. Anyway, Deckard said it best.

I think Park Cho-young’s goal vs Nigeria is one of the best. He was like the only player to get free kicks right (like hitting the post early against Uruguay) with the shitballani.

  7. Ty says:

Youtube Maicon vs Portugal, he did the exact same thing against Portugal in 2008. Same angle, same ferocious pace. There is no question that he meant to shoot!

    Horrible music
