don’t know about eto’o, i think he’s a pretty brilliant classic hit man, and so requires very good service which is why he was at his best at barcelona, but didn’t have much to work with here. replace him with ribery, or maybe julio cezar?

    is RVP going grey?

  2. Jack says:

To be fair lampard does a compleatly different job for England. At chelsea Franky has mikel/essien behind up doing all the defensive work so he can push on and make runs into the box, the reason why he scores 20+ goals every season. For england its gerrard/rooney/ and lennon/swp who are the attacking midfielders, therefore frank along with barry is expected to hold back more defensively, not really frank at his natural best. IMO this is why lampard isnt as effective for england as he is for chelsea. Yeah franky had a shit world cup along with everyother england player but he was one of the best against germany, ultamately the ‘not as good for england as he is for chelsea’ argument is slightly unjust..then again i am a chelsea fan so this could just be a load of bias ranting!

  3. Sim says:

Why isn’t Messi in this? He was a ‘flop’ considering the crazy amount of hype about him in the last few months.

  4. Kipp says:

Sim, did you watch the world cup? Or just look at Argentina’s result. All that was missing for Messi was the goal. He was exhilirating when on the ball and laid on 3-4 goals for team mates. Argentina got ousted due to tactics, not players. It was said tactics that allowed ze Germans to neutralise Messi, Tevez and Higuain in one fell swoop.

  5. Scott says:

I disagree with them all apart from rooney

  6. Deckard says:

You missed Ribery and Drogba too.

RVP: Haha I noticed that too, think the bloke’s going grey at 26. Two reasons why he sulked around till the end 1) coach prolly thought he owned him one after he treated the young starlet like crap when they were together at Feyenoord 2) no suitable alternatives. Kuyt as striker is a joke, Huntelaar not much better. and Babel, yeah.

Another player I found a total waste of space: Juan Veron. Was supposed to create magic with Messi but he really did fuck all. Leo ran the show.

    whats a “flop”??

  8. Kolo says:

    RVP? You’re kidding.

  9. JMB says:

You missed out a few. Were’s Messi, Cannavaro, Anelka, Ribery?

  10. Colleen says:

although i’m a die-hard argentina fan, truthfully i’d say messi was one of the biggest flops, if not the biggest, this year. not one goal…

  11. Rey says:

Can any one say they REALLY found Ronaldo’s performance at the World Cup disappointing? Nobody expected much of him. We all knew he was going to flop since:
    a) He can’t handle big matches on any level, club or country.
    b) He doesn’t play well for his country, probably due to a lack of commitment.
    c) For some reason, he keeps confusing the World Cup with the World Diving Championship.
