Euro 2008, Five conclusions: France 0-2 Italy

1. France were unlucky on the night, but overall they have got exactly what they deserved. They have not really got going in the three games and it is no surprise that they are going home.
2. You know you are in a bad way when you have to bring Jean-Alain Boumsong on for crisis management.
3. Italy don’t particularly deserve to go through either, but thems the breaks. They can thank Gianluigi Buffon that they have made it through.


4. It was an excellent penalty from Andrea Pirlo – under big pressure – to give Italy the vital lead they needed.
5. Time for a clearout for France. Goodbye Lilian Thuram, Patrick Vieira (albeit he hasn’t played at this tournament), Claude Makelele, and Thierry Henry.
