With a nod to today being St.Patrick’s Day and all that malarky, Pies presents our Top 10 footballing Patricks, Paddys and Packies (in no particular order)…

1. Patrick Vieira

Legendary Arsenal enforcer, now plying his (somewhat slower) trade over at Manchester City…

2. Paddy Kenny

Current QPR goalkeeper who ran three consecutive marathons (78 miles) to raise money for a children’s charity whilst serving a nine month ban for failing a drugs test at Sheffield United back in 2009…

3. Patrice Loko

Former French striker who provided a decent percentage of the goals for the last half-way decent Paris Saint-Germain side, i.e, the line-up that won the 1996 Cup Winners’ Cup and lost out to Barcelona in the final of the following year’s competition.

It was a toss up between Loko and Evra as to which Patrice was going to make the list, though the former just shaded it by virtue of having a slightly cooler surname…

4. Pat Rice

Made over 400 career appearances for Arsenal before becoming the club’s assistant manager – a position he has held since Arsene Wenger took over in 1996…

5. Kevin Keegan’s Patrick boots

‘Grote klasse’ indeed…

6. Packie Bonner

Packie (or ‘Patrick’ to his mother) was and still is a legendary Irish goalkeeper who amassed 80 international caps and a whopping 642 appearances for Celtic between 1978 and 1998…

7. Patrick Kluivert

Dutch striker that made a scintillating start to his career with Ajax and Barcelona, only to lose interest half-way through. Indeed Valencia inserted a clause into his contract when he signed for Los Che in 2005 stating they had permission to sack Kluivert if he was deemed to lack discipline at any point – such was his reputation…

8. Pat Nevin

Jinky Scottish winger who currently works as a rather decent pundit  for Channel Five and Five Live – in between hosting Indie rock club nights in and around the Kings Cross area…

9. Patrik Berger

Beautiful man, even beautiful-er hair…

10. Pat Jennings

Legendary Northern Irish stopper, seen here fooling around with a hose during an Arsenal pre-season photocall back in 1981…

So, there were go – game over man, game over.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day folks! Have a generic Irish stout on Pies!
