This man is Alejandro Balbi and he is Luis Suarez’s legal representative in Uruguay. He is seen here displaying unequivocal evidence that his client is not a racist man by holding aloft a picture of Suarez in close physical proximity to a small black child in front of a room full of South American press bods – the ‘Blatter Defence’ as it’s now known in the legal world…

Before you ask, ‘yes’, Balbi really did attempt to suggest Suarez isn’t a racist by merely producing that there photo – and, ‘yes’, this is the last time we’re going to mention the whole sorry ordeal because I’m just about as sick of it as you are.

I still don’t think Hansen should have worn the Suarez t-shirt on MOTD though.

  2. Chimpo says:

    @Stewart… knob statement retracted

    v funny

  3. thisISben says:

This whole thing is not about Suarez being a racist.

It is about Suarez saying something racist, which is completely different to actually being a racist.

  4. Thrills says:

    An older Messi?

  5. Redskywalker says:

Lol its so pathetic that it made me laugh

  6. Fletch says:

Amazing, if it wasnt for the serious nature of the offence this stuff would be comedy gold.

    JJ, you’re a goon mate

  11. Charlie Adam says:

But a 3 man panel of the FA (not corrupt) said he was racist!
Nice of you to leave the ordeal there, rather than treat it seriously, for example by considering what John Barnes said today.

  12. Jimmy says:

The expression on the face of the guy in the Adidas shirt says it all. He’s thinking “WTF? Is this knobhead serious?”

  13. Mr. Sparkle says:

    Surely, his lawyer was trolling?

  14. Ross says:

    Tokyo Sexwale stuff this

This photography only proves that Suarez’s lawyer is woeful.

Suarez’s isn’t under trial for being a racist. He was charge with using a player’s colour in an insulting manner. This is against the rules, just take your punishment and get on with life.

  16. Andy Carroll's Ponytail says:

KK should use this “unfair” treatment of Suarez to galvanise the team in a SAF “them-against-us” kinda siege mentality. And yes, finally Carroll’s gonna get an extended run out.

  17. JJ says:

I guess that Messi, Heinze (Evra’s x team mate), Higuain, DiMaria, Mascherano, Maxi Rodriguez are all racists too then.

This was in support of a black footballer (whom they never played with) who was shot in the head and was on life support in the hospital.

  18. Caitlin says:

I’m pretty sure the photo that he is showing is from when he was volunteering with Tomando Conciencia during the World Cup in South Africa. The charity focuses on racial discrimination specifically in sports. Suarez is trying to clear his name because it is insulting for him to be labelled a racist considering he actively volunteers with organizations that fight against racial discrimination, not to mention his grandfather is of African decent. That’s probably the point his lawyer is trying to get across.

I agree that the word “negro” or “negrito” or whatever may be part of the vocabulary they use in south america, but these players need to be aware that such words are not accepted in europe or any other part of the world which is not related to south american traditions, and thus for these people these words hurt badly…

  20. Veritas says:

Presumably, JJ, you don’t have any knowledge of Romance languages. That word “Negro” obviously means black, but the lack of a definite article gives the clue – a little research shows that it is an affectionate nickname for Fernando Cáceres, who happens to have dark skin, but only in the sense (ironically) that Suarez himself does. He is definitely NOT a black footballer.
