Eighth place, below Everton, 31 points off the top, second bottom of the top flight’s 2012 form league and on course for their worst ever Premier League finish, King Kenny Dalglish is rapidly losing is monarchical lustre at Anfield being, as he is, currently in the act of helming Liverpool on their worst run of form for 59 years.

Thankfully, footballing success is not metered out in trophies and points, but in merchandising, kit deals and smiles. Oh, hang on…

Liverpool’s 2-0 loss at Newcastle was their sixth defeat in seven games, which ain’t a great run whichever way you look at it – but the game was also peppered with little incidents that hinted at a frissant of unrest and strain in the camp; Andy Carroll filing some very suspect body language then gallumping straight down the tunnel after being substituted, Pepe Reina being sent-off for trying to nuzzle James Perch in the face and this –  Steven Gerrard shooing an encroaching Dalglish from the field like a tramp who had just shown up on the red carpet of a film première…

Now, the obvious explanation is that Gerrard was merely attempting to stop his irked manager from getting himself into any unnecessary trouble but, quite frankly, Occam and his soddin’ razor can go and do one.

Gerrard is the captain on the field, you cant undermine him like that. For once he was right, also that was a blatant techical-area violation. #PreyForPerch

  2. Eeny says:

I love how Kenny rubs his head on the long walk back to the hole that he crawled out from. Like a drunk dad getting berated by his embarrassed son.

  3. Alex says:

    Pray for perch :) tasty

  4. SL says:

Maybe he should try doing the same to Carroll?

  5. Mr. Sparkle says:

Liverpool what an emberassment, either way Gerrard and footballers nowadays have too much say in the running of clubs. Gerrard, Carragher, Lampard and Terry and so many like them should focus on playing football.

  6. Sameer says:

Mr.Sparkle, are u nuts? Do not even attempt to say gerrard’s name in the same sentence as which has JT, Lampard. U clearly dontknow much in football. Go back to cooking for your wife.

  7. 2paclives says:

@Sameer, if you cant speak Gerrards name with the likes of JT and Lampard then you probably dont know fuck all about football either. excuse me i have to whip up this dish for your ma real quickly…

A rough year to be a Liverpool fan.
Love Kenny, but things have gone astray. Time for change.
Chelsea would have changed managers 2x by now.

All he says is flanno will play left back and I’ll play right back.

  10. josemi says:

fenway groupe should appoint Gerrard as Player Manager … and kenny should go back home to cook for samirs mom and mr sparkls monger .

  11. KingEric7 says:

Reminds me of his gone-out expression back when Rafa substituted Torres when needing a goal against Birmingham, and it wasn’t long after before he bit the dust. Shouldn’t think it’ll be too long before Caesar’s thumb turns earthbound once more.

  12. yngwie j. malmsteen says:

Mr. Sparkle’s got a point. Players have way too much leverage in clubs these days. Terry shouting instructions during Chelsea vs Napoli, after getting AVB fired? Gerrard shooing Dalglish like that? Tevez and Balotelli making Mancini look like a complete tool box with each passing game week?

Imagine if either one of those three instances happened at Man United.

    They wouldn’t.
That’s why good old SAF has been imperial for 25 years.

You can’t just be a great football expert, you have to know how to manage tough personalities.

I love how noone here knows Kenny has watched Steven grow as a player ever since he was in the Academy and been his friend ever since. This isn’t ‘player power’ it’s just a captain assuring his manager he’ll handle the situation.

  14. ertzh says:

    “Time for change.”

    Yet again…

  15. Demon says:

@yngwie j. malmsteen To be fair I think Fergies ability in this regard is because he is clearly the one in charge whilst at chelsea etc players know they will outlast the manager, utd is a rare example of it being the other way round, only arsenal and everton could boast the same managerial power.

Though saying all this, people tend to forget about such events as Rooney threatening to go last season to Man City until he got a lovely massive new contract.

  16. Mr. Sparkle says:

    @Malmsteen

Couldnt have said it better. Personally I’m all for having gag orders on footballers when it comes to the media. They shouldn’t ever be in such situations, they’re thick and incredibly dimwitted for the most part but I guess only athletes are ever asked for their opinion when they generally don’t know half of what a 5th form does.

  17. Mr. Sparkle says:

Gerrard, Carragher and Owen have been instigators of previous issues with managers. Gerrard and Benitez had a communications issue which almost resulted in his leaving for Chelsea, Not to mention all the sway they held in the locker room when they obviously became sick of Benitez.

They may have respected him but from reading the Gerrard autobiography he didn’t seem to think highly of Benitez.

Players nowadays have too much power. Not just in football either.

  18. Applesauce says:

That’s because SAF, as much as I hate that fucker, wouldn’t wander 30 yards onto the pitch like a lost child.

I’m an Everton fan, and Gerrard was damn right to tell his clown of a manager to get back to his box.
