After spending last season farmed out to Milan in Serie A, Italian midfielder Alberto Aquilani looks set to return to Anfield and stay there for the 2012/13 season. The Rossoneri turned down the chance to sign the schemer on a permanent deal and the player’s agent, Franco Zavaglia, now expects his client to stay on Merseyside. He said:
“Aquilani will remain at Liverpool. He has a contract and hence there is nothing new.”
“I would say that at this point the chances that he could go back to Milan are impossible. Other clubs? I reiterate, he will remain at Liverpool.”
A fine footballer when fit, Aquilani failed to flourish in his first spell with the Reds. However, his skill and technique should fit nicely into Brendan Rodgers’ footballing philosophy so the 28-year-old Italian international could well resurrect his Liverpool career.
A midfield trio of Gerrard, Lucas and Aquilani doesn’t look too shabby, does it?
