West Bromwich Albion 3-0 Liverpool – Premier League – August 18 2012
Leaving Anfield after Kenny Dalglish was sacked at the end of last season, former Liverpool assistant manager Steve Clarke oversaw a superb West Brom victory against his former employers.
Zoltan Gera’s wonder-strike just before half-time gave the Baggies a deserved lead against a limp Liverpool who were down to 10 men on the hour-mark, when Daniel Agger was sent off for felling Shane Long in the box. Irishman Long did, however, make a right balls of his spot-kick but soon after, Peter Odemwingie showed him how to do it, firing home with another penalty after Long again had been fouled in the Liverpool box.
Man-mountain Romelu Lukaku, in a cameo role, made it three later on to give the home side a deserved win. As for Liverpool, with Joe Allen anonymous and Fabio Borini less than impressive, the watch-words for Liverpool and the Brendan Rodgers’ Revolution are “transition” and “patience”.
