In an act which will, in its own little way, bring close together the peoples of Mansfield and Ghana, everybody’s favourite Premier League pantomime villain Luis Suarez blatantly handled the ball on the way to scoring Liverpool’s second against Mansfield.
To be fair to the striker, as he fired the ball into the empty net, it looked as though even he thought the referee would blow for a foul. But no whistle came and so the Uruguayan celebrated his cheeky goal.
Play to the whistle, they say, and Suarez did. Not his fault the officials were rubbish.
Oh, and ESPN’s Jon Champion seemed to go rather OTT in his criticising of Suarez for the incident, calling him “a cheat”, not something the commentator would have done if the perpetrator had been English, I imagine.
