Premier League Photos: Wolves 0-0 Liverpool – Steven Gerrard Returns, Fails To Spark

By Ollie Irish

Rafa Benitez called this a “fair result” – it’s not something you hear him say often. But after the encouraging win over Spurs, this was a fairly turgid performance by Liverpool against a spirited Wolves side. Still, a point away from home in the Prem isn’t such a terrible result.

Stevie G returned for the Reds but he was given no time on the ball by the hosts’ five-man midfield, and so struggled to make things happen. Indeed, none of Liverpool’s forward players made much happen, least of all £20m man Alberto Aquilani, who didn’t even get off the bench. The game also passed Maxi Rodriguez by, but it’s way too early to pass judgment on the Argentine winger.

As for Wolves, this was a battling point that could yet keep them up. Kevin Doyle deserves a special mention – he was superb up front on his own, putting in enough work for two men.

LAME! when the season’s over we should sign Lyon’s manager, Claude Puel. it’s not going to happen but it would be pretty fantastic.
