This extract comes from Rafa’s press conference ahead of tonight’s Europa League clash against Unirea:

Romanian hack: “Mr Benitez, the last time I saw you was at the 2005 Champions’ League final, and your, erm, silhouette seems to have changed since then. Why is that?”

Rafa: “It is the stress of having to answer so many questions from the press. Thank you and goodnight.”

Managers have to put up with all sorts of shit from the media, but this is the first time I can remember a journalist having the gall to ask, “So why have you turned into such a fatty fatty boom boom?”

To be fair to The Fat Waiter Rafa, he took it in his stride and answered with dignity and a smile. I don’t know how Alex Ferguson would have handled it. Not with a smile, that’s for sure.
