Chelsea 2-1 Liverpool – Premier League – 29th December 2013

Britain Soccer Premier League

Chelsea produced an impressive display against Liverpool on Sunday to stay just two points behind leaders Arsenal. Martin Skrtel opened the scoring on just three minutes but by half-time the Blues were ahead, courtesy of a super strike from Eden Hazard and a goal from Samuel Eto’o. The game was full of questionable decisions, with Howard Webb having a mare. Eto’o should arguably have been sent off for a high foot challenge on Jordan Henderson, as should Oscar for a dreadful challenge on Lucas, although the Liverpool’s man response should have also seen him given his marching orders. Hazard should have won a penalty when he was axed in the box as should Liverpool when Eto’o blocked Luis Suarez in the box. However, ultimately it was Jose Mourinho’s side who took all three points as the Reds’ title tile took another hit.

  1. Straight Dave says:

It’s no wonder Mourinho has got such a great home record with Chelski when they get ridiculous decisions like the one not to award a penalty against Eto’o. Pathetic.

Fair play to Chelesa they played with more intensity and got their victory.

The tightness of the league is now putting more emphasis on referee decisions – its a thankless job. But there does seem to be a reluctance to go with gut instinct and penalise things on the spot.

When referees get a little too familiar with situations – they can get a little too blah-zay. Even in the previous game, Obi Mikel and Ramires somehow avoided any punishment for those horrible tackles.

These are experienced referees too. Its important you use these situations to show teams you mean business.

    Its easy:

Yellow card – nowhere near the ball and make a direct movement to impede a player. No second chance.

Red Card – leg breaker tackle. No second chance.

Penalty – the player is impeded and no contact with the ball.

To me thats all you should be thinking.
