Liverpool 4-0 Everton – Premier League – 28th January 2014

Soccer - Barclays Premier League - Liverpool v Everton - Anfield

Under Roberto Martinez, Everton may be enjoying a very good season so far, but at Anfield on Tuesday night the Toffees were well and truly battered by a rampant Liverpool side. Daniel Sturridge netted a brace, including a fine chip over Tim Howard, after Steven Gerrard had opened the scoring with a close-range header. Luis Suarez, who set up Gerrard’s goals from a corner, then added a fourth after the break (it was 3-0 at half-time) to secure a famous Merseyside derby victory. The Toffees’ night also went from bad to worse when Romelu Lukaku was forced off early on with ankle ligament damage after slipping into team-mate Gareth Barry.
