Liverpool 5-1 Arsenal – Premier League – 8th February 2014

Britain Soccer Premier League

Liverpool produced a magnificent display in the early game on Saturday, thrashing league-leaders Arsenal at Anfield. The home side rocketed out of the blocks, closing down the Gunners and tearing the famed Arsenal backline apart. Indeed, the Reds were 2-0 up after just 10 minutes, courtesy of an unlikely brace from Martin Skrtel, with Raheem Sterling and Daniel Sturridge also netting before the break to all but finish off the game within 45 minutes.

After the break, Sterling got his second before a Mikel Arteta penalty, after Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain had been felled by Steven Gerrard, at least secured a goal for the Gunners.

The thoroughly deserved win sees Liverpool move to within five points of Arsenal, who remain top, at least before the rest of Saturday’s games. However, the real questions are (a) how much psychological damage will this mauling do to Arsene Wenger’s men, as yet another February capitulation starts to look increasingly likely and (b) are Liverpool genuine title contenders?

I wonder how good this Liverpool side would be if they had at least three players comparable to Suarez’ class instead of chancers like Henderson, Sterling and Cissokho

Liverpool get a big win? Queue the whole-host of new “life long fans” celebrating the victory and talking of the title returning to its ‘rightful’ home….. (you know, until they lose or scrape a draw in a week or two to some bottom third club, then the fans will go back to Man City or Barcelona United)

5-1 against the most consistent club in BPL.. thats what matters..

@goose: go cry to your Mama..

@ Mati ochu – do you watch any Liverpool games? Henderson has been class all season, one of our best players and still young, two goals against the top of the table team for Sterling indicates he’s doing ok and getting better all the time, again still very young. Too early to tell wth Cissoko. Use your brain to actually watch a game and see what is really happening and not jump on a bandwagon, particularly in Hendersons case that just has no foundation.

  6. […] Apparently an “ardent” Liverpool fan was stabbed to death at a bar in the town of Meru on Sunday by a livid Arsenal fan who was incensed after watching his side whimper their way to a 5-1 defeat at Anfield. […]

Liverpool are definitely becoming the most fun club to watch this season and BR is doing some sound tactical work as well, cheers to them
