Soccer - FA Cup - Fifth Round - Arsenal v Liverpool - Emirates Stadium

Arsenal took revenge for that 5-1 hammering at Anfield last week by securing a hard-fought 2-1 win at home to Liverpool on Sunday. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who was superb throughout, scored one (in the first-half) and made one (in the second, for Lukas Podolski) in a game which could have gone either way. A Steven Gerrard penalty in the second period set up a barn-storming finish, as Liverpool pushed and pushed for an equaliser that just didn’t come.

Brendan Rodgers and co. were also incensed when referee Howard Webb refused to give the visitors a second penalty after Luis Suarez was clearly fouled in the box by Oxlade-Chamberlain, but by the same token, Gerrard was lucky not to see red for a second bookable offence while Raheem Sterling didn’t see a card of any colour despite berating Webb and putting his hand on the official.

All in all, while Liverpool created the better chances, the Gunners were defensively superb and they can now look forward to a last eight home clash with Everton.
