Soccer - Barclays Premier League - Cardiff City v Liverpool - Cardiff City Stadium

While the main gongs are yet to be divvied out (more on that as and when) and the official announcements are yet to be made, but The Guardian’s live feed of the PFA Awards event has confirmed that the 2014 PFA Team of the Year is as follows…

Petr Cech

Seamus Coleman – Vincent Kompany – Gary Cahill – Luke Shaw

Eden Hazard – Yaya Toure – Steven Gerrard – Adam Lallana

Daniel Sturridge – Luis Suarez

We’d have David De Gea over Cech, Cesar Azpilicueta over Shaw, Dejan Lovren/Jose Fonte/John Terry over Kompany and Aaron Ramsey over Lallana (he may have only been fit for three/fours months, but what a three/four months!) but other than that, it’s fairly sound, picks-itself fare from the PFA electorate.

Personally, we’d love to see Steve Sidwell get a nod for his hard work this season too. Perhaps an honorary place on the bench?

Any thoughts, Pies fans? Who would you swap in/out?

really don’t see whats all the hype about Gerrard, rather have Silva there or Matic, Toure and Matic on the midfield will stop anything any team in the world, its time to stop licking Gerrard a$$ just because he is the FA golden boy, ill take a Matic~Toure Center of the field any day.

    Marshall in the sticks, surely

@Mojojojo: Yep, I’d definitely back any calls to give Marshall the nod too. Just think De Gea has been quietly brilliant this season.

mertesacker/koscienly, fonte/lovren, terry/cahill all worthy of a place over kompany imo

  4. shitcametalking says:

you could not put mert/koscienly in there after the Chelsea and Liverpool thrashings. Fonte/Lovren for sure and Terry. Didn’t think Kompany has had a great year to be fair.

kompany and shaw the odd one’s out , lovren/skrtel/terry have to there instead of kompany , baines left back all day long

  7. RJ says:

Naismith should be player of the year, obviously.

  8. JoeT says:

Azpilicueta and Terry should have been in there

Gerrard? lfc would have been just find without him this season in my opinion.

Kompany is important but if he was gone, city’s goal difference would be the only thing affected, not their position in the table.

I agree with everyone else above my comment. I have thoroughly enjoyed this season!

these awards are always a joke how the hell is cech in there its always about the names and team you play for

Where are Jozy Altidore and Marouane Fellaini?

How anyone can debate cech chelsea have the best defensive record this season (albeit parking the bus). Baines has been excellent but shaw has been a cut above the rest remember he is only like 18. I think Kompany should miss out he is tremendous but there is other defenders this season (Terry Cahill Skrtel). Gerrard has been the driving force this season for Liverpool his influence and experience has guided the youngsters through the season. Lallana would miss out because Silva has been impressive and Ramsey even if only 4 months. No one in the world could argue with SAS up front they have over 50 goals this season between them

    Lukaku anyone?

    No Silva!
