Liverpool 2-1 Newcastle – Anfield Win Not Enough As Reds End Season Runners-Up (Photos & Highlights)

By Alan Duffy

Liverpool 2-1 Newcastle United – Premier League – 11th May 2014

Liverpool came from a goal down to beat Newcastle at Anfield but it wasn’t enough to stop Manchester City claiming the Premier League title.  A Martin Skrtel own-goal gave the visitors the lead in a first-half which saw the Reds struggle to get going. However, after the break, Daniel Agger and Daniel Sturridge both scored to give the Anfield faithful a final day win if not a trophy. Newcastle had Shola Ameobi and Paul Dummett both sent off at the end of what has been a poor season for Alan Pardew and co.

Despite not winning the title after looking strong favourites to do so, Brendan Rodgers and his players can still look back on a fantastic season with Champions League football to come in 2014/15.
