Sunderland 0-1 Liverpool – Premier League – 10th January 2015
Lazar Markovic produced a match-winning performance for Liverpool at the Stadium of Ligh in Saturday’s early game.
The Serbian winger looks finally to be settling in the Premier League and it was his goal, after just eight minutes, which would settle the game. Markovic also hit the post courtesy of a superb volley as the Reds dominated for large periods of the game. The half-time subbing off of the injured Steven Gerrard did little to hinder the Reds with the Black Cats poor throughout.
Things went from bad to worse for Gus Poyet’s men in the second period with the sending-off of Liam Bridcutt for two bookable challenges although Adam Johnson did hit the crossbar with a fabulous effort. However, ultimately the visitors picked up the three points they deserved.
Brendan Rodger’s charges are now just four points off a Champions League berth while Sunderland are 16th, just a point above the drop-zone.
