Sunday saw the Steven Gerrard Testimonial All-Star Charity bash take place at Anfield, with a host of familiar faces turning out to wave off the departing club captain, who thankfully managed to make it past the 40-second mark this time.

Here’s how the teams were picked…

Gerrard was captaining one side while Jamie Carragher skippered t’other, with the two sides playing out a gentle, good-spirited 2-2 draw – Mario Balotelli and Didier Drogba putting Carra’s team 2-0 up before a brace of penalties from Stevie squared it all off nicely.

The game was full of subtle sentimental nods hither and thither, like both Thierry Henry and Xabi Alonso wearing No.14 shirts. It’s the little touches.

Here be all the chaps involved…

Unable to take part due to injury, Raul Meireles still found the time to take his beard on parade…

Seeing these four titans back on the same pitch again. Phwoar…

Here’s Nando and Luis making their grand return…

…and Jamie Carragher taking it way too seriously…

The goals, including a fine opener from Mario Balotelli…

They’re all penalties these days, aren’t they Stevie?

Thierry Henry indulging in some trademark finesse, only for Ryan Babel to apply a customary finish of his very own…

Reunited and it feels so good…

Fernando Torres’ heartfelt thank-you note…

torres-thanks

A jolly good time had by all.
