Liverpool striker Fernando Torres has been ruled out for the rest of the season after undergoing surgery in Spain on Sunday evening – to repair damaged cartilage in his right knee.
The Spaniard will now definitely miss Liverpool’s Europa League clash with his former side Atletico Madrid on Thursday, along with the club’s four remaining Premier League matches – starting with tonight’s home fixture with West Ham.
The rehabilitation period for such a procedure is usually around six weeks, so Torres should return in time to play for Spain in the World Cup in June.
