Scouting report: Liverpool’s new summer signings

With all eyes on Germany, Rafa Benitez has quietly been ‘gettin’ busy’ in the transfer market. The sly dog. Let’s take a look at his new boys:

Fabio Aurelio
(pictured) Brazilian left-back, 27, signed on a free from Valencia (work those contacts, Rafa!). Solid defender but also good going forward and takes a mean free-kick. A great signing.

Gabriel Paletta
Tenacious Argentine defender, aged just 20, compared to Jamie Carragher by Benitez. Maybe that’s because Paletta doesn’t know the rules for penalty shoot-outs either?

Mark Gonzalez Chilean left-winger, signed a year ago but Liverpool has only just got his work permit sorted. Decent crosser, apparently. Bolo Zenden, your days are numbered mate.

Also rumoured to be on Rafa’s big shopping list: Jermaine Pennant, Joaquin, Dirk Kuyt and Daniel Alves.
