Liverpool have been nominated, along with Borussia Dortmund, for the first-ever FIFA Fan Award, with their fans’ incredible performance of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ from their Europa League clash back in April one of three special moments in contention for the new prize.

Iceland fans’ now iconic ‘Viking Clap’ performances during EURO 2016 is also named, along with that wonderful gesture from ADO Den Haag supporters, who dropped soft toys from the top tier of Feyenoord’s De Kuip stadium onto visiting children from the local hospital.

The magnificent rendition of “You’ll Never Walk Alone came at Anfield just a day before the 27th anniversary of the Hillsborough tragedy…

Minnows Iceland enjoyed an incredible Euro 2016 campaign in France this summer, humiliating England before eventually losing to hosts France. However, their fans’ ‘Viking Clap’ celebration, which originally found fame in Scottish football, became one of the most memorable moments of the tournament.

Dutch side ADO Den Haag saw their fans produce one of the most moving moments of the last year, supporting Rotterdam’s Sophia Children’s Hospital by literally showering children watching the club’s clash with feyenoord with hundreds and hundreds of soft toys.

Some rather fine memories there!

The three nominees were chosen by a four-person panel consisting of legends Gabriel Batistuta, Zvonimir Boban, Marta and Vladimir Petkovic, but the final winner will be decided by fans who can vote on the FIFA website here.

Voting is open until the ninth of January, when FIFA will unveil the winners at its annual glitzy awards bash in Zurich.
