Liverpool moved up to third in the Premier League table after beating West Brom 1-0 at the Hawthorns.

However, the Reds should have won the game by a greater margin, only for Alberto Moreno to make an absolute mess of a gilt-edged chance at the death.

Roberto Firmino scored the only goal of the game at the end of the first period, heading home after Lucas had flicked on a James Milner free-kick.

Late on, the Baggies pushed for an equaliser, with goalkeeper Ben Foster going forward for a corner.

However, Liverpool broke quickly from the corner, leaving Moreno with a glorious chance to fire into an open goal or at least set up a team-mate.

Instead, the Spaniard fired well wide….

Oops!

After the game, Reds’ boss Jurgen Klopp stood up for Moreno, saying:

I talked to Alberto after the game about everyone thinking that he could have played in Daniel Sturridge, but I’m not sure that he knew that he could, because he would have been offside, But maybe there was another option which I didn’t really know.

But it’s completely normal in a situation like this, where you think you have to do it. He’s a good boy, I would have been happy for him if he’d scored this. But it was excitement until the end – pretty much always whenever we are involved.

He still should have bloody scored!
