Jamie Carragher Set For Shock England Return?
By Chris Wright
Reports in a few of this morning’s rags are suggesting that Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher may be poised to make a shock return to the England squad for this summer’s World Cup.
Carragher declared his retirement from international football in the summer of 2007 (due to his frustration at the lack of opportunities at centre-back given to him by then-boss Steve McClaren) but has now indicated a willingness to reverse his decision, following a series of super secret meetings held in a deserted WWII bunker deep within the White Cliffs of Dover with the current England management team.
Although talks are thought to be at a delicate stage (Carragher is said to be wary of a supporter’s backlash after having not contributed to England’s qualification) it is thought that Fabio Capello now intends to select the 32-year-old in his 30-man provisional World Cup squad, which is set to be announced at Wembley this coming Tuesday.
My thoughts about a potential World Cup call-up for Carra can be summed up in a simple equation:
Jamie Carragher > Matthew Upson
