Sadly it’s not that Simply Red star. And not likely to be either – Hucknell is a massive Man Utd fan.

Former Simply Red guitarist Sylvan Richardson has joined Liverpool as the club’s new masseur, after spending two years kneading the knots from the calves of cyclist Sir Chris Hoy.

Richardson was a founder member of Simply Red but quit in 1987 after becoming disillusioned with the music industry, which I imagine is fairly easily done.

Richardson, who is currently in Switzerland with Liverpool at their pre-season training camp resort of Bad Ragaz, told the club’s official website;

“They have been giving me a lot of stick. Especially Sammy Lee.

I am a professional producer and musician but I was always interested in medicine, and when I left the band, that’s the path I went down.

To work for Liverpool is a great honour and when I got the call I was really excited.

My role is to prepare the players and deal with their recovery after training. I am used to working with top athletes and so am very much looking forward to this opportunity.”

Seems apt, seeing as though this is Liverpool we’re talking about.

    I just try to maintain my youthful exuberance for as long as possible… a case of holding back the years, if you will…
