Finally, light is emerging at the end of the tunnel for surprise Premier League strugglers Liverpool. In recent seasons, the club has been embroiled in more boardroom dramas than an episode of Dallas, but now, courtesy of New England Sports Ventures (NESV),  peace may about to be restored to the kingdom of Anfield.

NESV, who own the Boston Red Sox, are reported to have had an offer of around £300 million to buy the club accepted by the Anfield board, although the deal will need to approved by the Premier League, while an ongoing legal dispute between current owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett, and managing director Christian Purslow and commercial director Ian Ayre, also still needs to be resolved. The rather unpopular current US owners believe the bid from NESV seriously undervalues the club, however chairman Martin Broughton is delighted with the deal which will cover the cost of the loans and fees owed to the Royal Bank of Scotland:

“The board decided to accept NESV’s proposal on the basis that is best met the criteria we set out originally for a suitable new owner. NESV’s philosophy is all about winning and they have fully demonstrated that at Red Sox.”

So with Hicks and Gillett about to pack up their wagons and head back west (probably meeting the club’s new owners going in the other direction), the Anfield faithful will surely breathe a sigh of relief.  Although what they’ll make of yet another set of American owners remains to be seen.

the new owners may be american but at least they bought the club with their own money. maybe instead of having to service debt they can maybe invest a bit in the squad. the bottom line is that things are better than they were, although time will tell by how much.

Can’t be worse than H&G, surely. A ray of light for Liverpool fans, and proof that concerted supporter power does have an effect on owners.

Look up John w henry on wickipedia he has only got £560 million he is not the white knight we all hoped he maybe. Were is all the finance comming from is it going to be like tom and jerry rob peter to pay paul . I dont trust this sale why did they just hang on a short while and see who was going to make bids when the RBS called in the loan. what was the asia bid they accepted there were two bids what was the deciding factor between the two bids . I want the club sold as liverpool fan of 48 yrs but i just dont like the way this is panning out very similar to when the last two cowboys took over didnt one of their teams win there league what ever sport it was and that had not happened in a long time ring any alarm bells . we should of stayed away from any american biders i may seem a sceptic but i could not go through the nightmare of the same senario . I hope i am wrong in all ive said here and i have to eat humbel pie and i would most humbely eat it for the sake of the club i and all my fellow reds love .albey

Maybe if you Liverpool fans weren’t a bunch of xenophobic asshats, you might realize that Rafa played a very big part in turning your team to shit by consistently by buying terrible players for lots of money. Be grateful you got new owners because you deserve to be in administration.

Broughton saying we may not get new stadium now but increase in caopacity to 60 thousand at anfield i thought this was part of the sale agreement that we got a new ground . getting better by the hour albey

  7. Scott says:

Since Henry’s group bought the Red Sox in 2002, the team has won two World Series titles and consistently competed for playoff baseball. They re-built the second oldest stadium in baseball, helped build up a sports network and ran a successful racing team. Henry may be the principle owner, but his group has a ton of money. This couldn’t be a better situation for LFC.

  8. Jonathan says:

Liverpool don’t deserve to be anywhere other than the basement of the premier league. They have the most obnoxious fans in the league and should feel lucky to be in the same city as Everton.
