Just weeks after his unfathomable milk-based critique of Liverpool’s former owners, Inter Milan coach Rafa Benitez has delivered yet another cryptic attack on the club, this time focusing on current manager Roy Hodgson – whom he has likened to a ‘priest on a mountain of sugar’.

Responding to accusations made by Hodgson that he had banned Kenny Dalglish from Liverpool’s Melwood training complex during the final few months he spent in charge at Anfield, Benitez said:

“I think that Mr Hodgson, he doesn’t understand. Every single press conference is even worse than the last one. He’s talking about things that he doesn’t know.

Some people cannot see a priest on a mountain of sugar.

Maybe he hasn’t been in Liverpool too long. We gave the fans their pride – again. We fought for the fans, we fought for the club and we fought for our players, so maybe he cannot understand this.”

I brought back Kenny Dalglish to do a role in the club and Christian Purslow gave him another role. [Hodgson] doesn’t know but I will explain it to him.

Instead of talking about the flips or the flops, he has to concentrate on his players, try to do his best. He has a good job to do.”

Surely now it’s only a matter of time before we see some form of elaborate ‘priest on a sugar mountain’ banner unfurled at Anfield? Overly-verbose banner producers of Merseyside, thy time is nigh.

He’s not saying Roy is the priest.

He’s saying some people cannot see what is very obvious. A priest, dressed in black on a mountain of sugar (white) is very easy to see.

If you’re going to mock him atleast try to understand what he means.

  2. Chris says:

@Matt: Believe me, I’ve tried – but my brain is still fried from the ‘white liquid in a bottle must be milk’ palaver!

  3. James says:

He wants a cuppa. Milk, sugar…. tea leaves?

  4. Greg says:

    HODGSON FOR ENGLAND!

  5. Ronnie says:

Chris, you quote Benitez saying that “Roy Hodgson is a priest on a mountain of sugar’. He didn’t. Did you just make a mistake in your headline or did you really think that’s what he said? I think you should check what you write before putting it out as you just make yourself look a bit stupid.

  6. Chris says:

@Ronnie: To be honest, I had no idea what he was going on about – I just assumed it was the usual nonsensical Rafa spiel.

I honestly thought it was a reference to Hodgson ‘preaching’ whilst standing on shaky moral ground – i.e. a mountain of sugar/sand/talcum powder etc.

It seems that ‘a priest on a sugar mountain’ is actually a fairly well-known saying, despite the fact that I’ve never heard it ever used before in any context!

Chris probably doesnt understand, He seem to have shot himself in the foot and trying to work his way out. Priest are normally in black while sugar is white. It is not that hard… Then again the name of your site is whoaate”all”thepies if you look at the picture most of the pie is still there and just a bit of the pie has been eaten.. At least you are very consistent in not knowing what you are talking about. KEEP IT UP

  8. The Belgian says:

Steve? Why are you whining about the logo? There’s been a mistake in this post, yes. Should you go criticize the blog THAT hard? No. I bet you feel very comfortable behind your computer screen, don’t ya?
Anyway, Chris made a mistake, who the fuck cares?! It’s still an awesome blog.

  9. steve says:

Not whining about the logo, I have seen the logo for a long time and never mentioned it, but if this guy doesnt understand what Rafa was talking about because of his lack of depth, maybe he shouldnt comment on it. I only emphasized on the logo to show this guy doesnt really know what is talking about. And for me comfortable behind my computer screen, I am suppose not to be comfortable? I usppose you dont have anything intelligent to write about, so you have taking it upon yourself to reply me… Get a life… Now to and pick up your benefit, I am about to do some work…

  10. gamblino says:

get a life? You just criticised a picture of a pie. Are you on crack?

  11. steve says:

sorry not on crack… working earning a living while sneaking in to read some liverpool news…. I suppose you are on crack aint you..

  12. C says:

Yay, internet wars! Way to make yourselves look like petty and simple minded!

  13. The Belgian says:

1a. a logo of a pie and liverpool news have nothing in common, so what’s the link? I’ve seen chris write some pretty good stuff in the past, don’t be a dick. He just made a mistake.

1b. did chris actually make the logo himself?

2a. don’t tell me I don’t have a life, while it’s you who is checking a post you already read after just 40 minutes.

2b. either you’re unemployed, or your work is pretty boring.

    3. Don’t be a dick.

This was my last comment on this subject.
    cheers
