Forget all the hoo-haa over Amanda Knox’s new-found freedom, the big  story of law and order on Merseyside today is the decision by The FA to rescind the red card that Martin Atkinson brandished in the direction of Jack Rodwell in the clash with Liverpool at the weekend.

We all know it was a lousy decision by the notoriously card-happy Atkinson, indeed, if you watch the video carefully you can even see Rodwell make the international sign for a football, just in case the referee’s English isn’t up to scratch. However, now young Jack can rest easy knowing that he is free from that three-match ban. Atkinson, on the other hand, may well be officiating in the less glamorous surroundings of he Blue Square Premier League for the next couple of weeks for his sins.

Reports that an emotional Rodwell, when told the news, broke down in tears are simply used here for comic effect.

Hurray for justice!

Great tackle. The way Suarez pops up like that! Pathetic, I cant see how it could even have hurt.

  2. Chris says:

A victory for sense and reason. Still ruined the Derby mind.

  3. Montesquieu says:

Good on Rodwell, but I do think it’s a bit in bad taste to compare Amanda Knox to him. Whether you believe her or whether you believe that the Italians were hasty in their decision to prosecute, a young life was extinguished none the less. A red card for a tackle can’t ever be compared to a cold blooded murder.

Great that it’s been overturned but doesn’t change that EFC lost 3 points

    Someone snap Suarez.

  6. syndex says:

simple question if jamie carrager or god save us little stevie G had made the same tackle on Jack would they have been sent off, booked or would jack have been booked for simulation. BTW I am not just aiming at livepool and I have heard the same from Liverpool fans if they are playing man utd, chelsea of previously arsenal.
The refereeing slant towards the bigger teams is getting to be a joke and resinding the red is a sop to the fact that this time it went too far and it is not just the fans of one of the ‘smaller teams’ complaining.

  7. Dan says:

That was defo a red card! Should have extended his ban for appealing!

  8. Montesquieu says:

Referees have always been slanted toward big teams. Look at the way football was played in the nineteen seventies, it was dirty on the pitch and in the stands. Teams like Leeds United got away with near murder on the pitch and the referees seemed to never notice.
