“Two weeks’ wages boyo! Read ’em and weep…”

Man City manager Roberto Mancini has followed through on his promise to bring about the heaviest fine possible for Mario Balotelli after the striker was papped slinking out of a Liverpool strip club in the wee small hours of Friday morning (2:45am to be exact) by relieving him of two weeks’ wages – £250,000. One quarter of a million pounds.

Balotelli’s latest misdemeanour comes on the back of precisely several hundred others, with Mancini suggesting the soothing qualities of a good dose of holy matrimony as a measure to curb the 21-year old’s dickish tendencies:

“It could be that marriage would help him. That could be the answer, because I am sure he understands that he has made a mistake.  Mario is like this, but there is nothing we can do if he does not eventually realise he cannot keep doing this.

“It seems anything can happen with him at any moment. He is his own worst enemy and it is 100% [certain] that he should have learned by now. When you are a professional, you should know you cannot stay out until after two o’clock in the morning, so close to a game.

“If Mario went to bed early he’d score more.”

Once again. One quarter of a million pounds. A throwaway fine for visiting a strip club two days before a game. One quarter. Of a million pounds. I just…I don’t…what?

For those who missed it, here’s BBC reporter Damian Johnson mistaking Roberto Mancini for Mario Balotelli – what with them looking pretty much identical and all…

Easy mistake to make.

The press acts like this is the scandal of the century…lol. Footballers do this all the damn time. Poor Mario is just an easy target for the media now.

  2. Wolf Haley says:

When he becomes the greatest striker of all time, as it is his destiny to be, none of this will mean diddly squat

  3. tyler says:

Who cares! The dude is 21 years old. If he can’t handle a little night out and still play like a champ, then that is a problem. Otherwise so what.

  4. Davy says:

    I love him

  5. Solihull United says:

@papi just be glad hes not english! otherwise the headline would be “mario kills several people on a drug infested fury at a stripclub”

  6. Mr Sensible says:

You know when football has completely lost the plot and has far more money than sense when a player is fined a quarter of a million pounds because he went to a strip bar which is completely legal and did nothing wrong whatsoever.

  7. pkhakheria says:

do footballers do this all the time? yes , but rules are rules, all players have curfews designated by the clubs especially nights before matches. this is the second time Mario broke that rule (first time he stepped out for curry). Either way the club needs to stand firm in their position , if mario gets away with everything he does it would send the wrong message to the other players and clubs

  8. Nabillion says:

@Mr. Sensible, being in a strip club 24 hrs before a match isnt quite the same….
Everytime i think mario’s trying work no his potential he pulls sh*t like this

  9. sloth says:

Mario is a legend. I hated him at Inter (Juve ties, laugh if you like), but I’ve learned to love him. Hope these slaps on the wrist keep him from sinking into a George Best spiral.

  10. Tosser says:

Actually the fine breaks down like this. 5 quid for out past curfew. 249,995 for going to Liverpool.

  11. Mr Sensible says:

    @Nabillion

You telling me he’d have got a £250,000 fine if he was caught having a cup of tea in a cafe at 2 in the morning, no difference in my opinion. I don’t particularly like the guy but I think he’s been harshly treated and the money involved is depressing and ridiculous.

  12. Jeff says:

“If he went to bed earlier, he would score more.” Haha….

  13. Andy Carroll's Ponytail says:

@Jeff: LOL! Didn’t read that much into it until your post..

  14. Yassir says:

    It’s 2 weeks wages.

Doesn’t matter if that is £10 or £10 million, the amount is irrelevant. A 2 week fine by the club is sensible here. To those who (bizarrely) think he’s being harshly treated, have you thought for one second that the club are acting in THE BEST INTERESTS of Mario?

  15. Al says:

the issue is that it was 24 hours before a game, not that it was a strip club and yes @Mr Sensible the fine would have been the same if he had been found in a coffee shop at 2am. the point is he wasn’t in bed resting and as such wasn’t giving himself the optimum chance of being 100% sharp.
A bit silly of him as he could have just gone the night of the match and it wouldn’t have caused such a furore but I suppose when the scouse breasts call you it’s rude not to answer

what poor lady thinks she could tame such a man! Anyway, there’s plenty of time for fun in the off season periods. No need for this stuff during the season.
