Manchester City 3-2 Queens Park Rangers – Premier League – 13th May 2012

What a finish that was! Despite going down to 10 man after renowned pacifist Joey Barton lost the plot completely and was sent off, QPR looked to have handed Man Utd the title going in to injury time, courtesy of Jamie Mackie’s goal to make it 2-1 (Zabaleta and Cissé netted their side’s first goals).

However, Edin Dezeko and then Sergio Aguero came up trumps for Roberto Mancini and Co. and the rest is history!

We’ve already covered the drama here on Pies in a multimedia extravaganza so there ain’t much to say other than well done City and congrats to Rangers for staying up, despite the behaviour of their captain.

Photos (a few more than usual as befits the occasion)…

As a QPR fan, its funny how QPR eased up once the Stoke result had come through. I wonder if Ashley Youngs blatant cheating was in the back of their minds.

Anyway its a nice bit of Karma for 1) QPR to stop Man U winning the title and 2) for City to win it in Fergie time.

SL, as soon as I saw the QPR bench going crazy, I wondered if that might open the door for City. Tired legs knew they had done what was required against a frantic team playing for the title, and probably their coach’s job. And what, they scored 30 or 45 seconds later? I would hope that despite Youngs theatrics, the QPR players wouldn’t intentionally back off.

  4. Bob says:

Juanos: If you see the reactions by the QPR players right after the goal, they weren’t backing off at all, quite upset with how it turned out. That’s not to say they didn’t have a momentary letdown when they heard they were safe, and that may have been all City needed.

More of this on the weekend?
