Manchester City went back to the top of the Premier League after securing a precious and hard-fought win at Goodison Park in Saturday’s late game. The Citizens had to come from behind, however, after Ross Barkley scored a superb curling effort early on. Sergio Aguero, so often the Citizens’ hero, levelled scores on 22 minutes before the Argentine hitman was forced off with a groin injury.

A goal either side of half-time from edin Dzeko put the Citizens in the driving seat but the Toffees, eager to catch Arsenal in the race for fourth place, fought back with Romelu Lukaku making it 3-2. However, Manuel Pellegrini’s side held on to leapfrog Liverpool into first place in the table.

With home games against Aston Villa and West Ham left for the Citizens, a second Premier League title now looks highly likely. As for Everton, they now can’t pinch a Champions League spot although overall it has been a fine first season in charge at Goodison for Roberto Martinez.

Everton should be ashamed of themselves for not trying to win.city were there for the taking and they just let them win.i hope arsenal lose to west Brom now.as Everton could have still got 4th with a win. I lost all respect for Everton today.and they showed there true colours today.a bitter club with no ambition

@Justice – you must have been watching another game to the rest of the country. Everton tried their best to win and were putting pressure on City until the final whistle (even with the six minutes of extra time).

City are just a very good team and turned the screw later in the match, not to mention time-wasting at every opportunity (like every other club in the running).

The only people who will have the audacity / short-sightedness to claim otherwise are deluded Liverpool fans who will, if they end up throwing away the league, seek to blame everyone / everything other than their own team.

    The mind boggles.

    @ Si Well said.

Sadly it’s not just the odd sad little troll on the internet with this opinion though. Martin Tyler needs to be sacked after his disgraceful coverage of the game. About as unbiased as a North Korean ballot counter. Repeatedly attacking the integrity of the Everton fans, saying “they need to have a look at themselves” at one point and his chuckle brother in arms Neville both repeatedly saying how bored there were. 5 goals, a goal of the season contender, contentious decisions, moments of madness and severe significance to the title — and they were bored?! Appalling.

@ justice, what a sad little man you are. There are still 6 points to play for and you could still win the title don’t be blaming Everton for you losing top spot try looking at your inability to beat a weakened Chelsea side and blaming yourselves….. Oh no silly me I forgot it’s never your fault your always the victims. Pathetic.

Liverpool fans are killing me with their crying! Remember that lovely assist from Gerrard to Drogba at Anfield that gifted the title to Chelsea ahead of ManUnited just a few years ago?
