Barcelona 1-0 Manchester City (Agg: 3-1) – Champions League Last 16 2nd Leg – 18th March 2015

Manchester City failed to turn around a 1-2 aggregate scoreline at the Nou Camp last night, in a game the hosts could have won by a cricket score.

Lionel Messi was superb throughout and it was the diminutive attacker who set up the only goal of the game, scored by Ivan Rakitic on the half-hour-mark.

After the break, the Catalans had numerous chances to add to the scoreline, only for a mizture of poor finishing and good work from Joe Hart to thwart them time and time again. The Citizens did have a chance to keep the tie alive late on, only for Sergio Aguero to see his penalty saved by Marc-Andre ter Stegen. However, overall Luis Enrique’s side were well deserving of both victory on the night and their quarter-final berth.

Manuel Pellegrini and co. now need to focus on the Premier League, with Chelsea comfortably ahead of the Citizens and the likes of Arsenal threatening to take second place.
