Manchester City 4-2 Borussia Monchengladbach – Champions League Group D – 8th December 2015

Manchester City secured a dramatic Raheem Sterling-inspired victory at home to Borussia Monchengladbach on Tuesday night to secure top spot in Group D.

The Citizens got off to a fine start with David Silva netting on 16 minutes after a clever Sterling backheel. However, the Premier League side’s defensive frailty was there for all to see once again, with goals from Julian Korb and Raffael putting the visitors ahead at the break.

In the second period, the hosts increased the pressure but it took until the 79th minute for a goal to come. Sterling was the scorer, firing home after good work from Gael Clichy. The former Liverpool man then scored again soon after before Wilfried Bony secured a dramatic late win for Manuel Pellegrini’s side.

With Juventus losing away to Sevilla, the Citizens secured their first-ever final group stages top spot and can now look forward to the draw for the last 16 next week. Although City’s defensive issues will no doubt continue to concern Pellegrini.
