Manchester City secured their place in the last 16 of the Champions League after an entertaining clash in Naples.

The game also saw Sergio Aguero finally become City’s outright top-scorer, with 178 goals.

However, it was Napoli who started the game brightly, with Lorenzo Insigne opening the scoring after a slick one-two with Dries Mertens.

City responded well and got themselves level before the break through Nicolas Otamendi, who headed in an Ilkay Gundogan centre.

Otamendi’s partner in defence, John Stones, headed in off the crossbar just after the break to put the visitors 2-1 ahead.

Napoli once again started to threaten the City goal, with Insigne seeing his effort come back off the crossbar.

The equaliser would come for the hosts, with Jorginho converting a spot-kick after Leroy Sane had fouled Raul Albiol in the box.

Both sides pushed for a winner, but it was Aguero who would score next, firing home from the edge of the box after a lightning-fast break to claim that City goal-scoring record.

Late on, Raheem Sterling would continue his potent run of form with a fourth for City from a Kevin De Bruyne pass.

The game would end 4-2 to Pep Guardiola and co, a result which sees them move into the knockout stages, with their superb run of form continuing.

As for Maurizio Sarri and the Serie A league leaders, they are in serious danger of missing out on the last 16.
