At least Mario showed up – he might have decided to go out and buy a couple of supercars instead, rather than face the media with a big grin and little English except “I no bad boy”.

So it’s a promising start, but I can’t help but feel this will end in big fat tears, no matter how much Bob Mancini insists he can get the best out of the wild young Italian.

Balotelli will wear gloves in September, go AWOL in December.
