Manchester United 2-0 Swansea City – Premier League – 6th May 2012

First-half goals from Paul Scholes and Ashley Young secured three points for United against Swansea, points which see the destination of the title still undecided ahead of the final day of the season.

The Red Devils totally dominated but an avalanche of goals which could have helped them in their quest to topple rivals City never arrived.

With one game to go, United stay level with the Citizens. However, with Roberto Mancini’s side enjoying a vastly superior goal difference (eight goals better off) and what should be a relatively easy home game with QPR left, Fergie and co. won’t be expecting to lift the Premier League trophy next weekend.

The Swans stay a creditable 12th.

It wasn’t that easy for us.

Swansea proved what a solid team they are, in fact there were numerous moments in the game when I fully expected them to score.

It was a satisfactory performance from United. We were never going to get 7 or 8 past Swansea, and Sir Alex knew that. The most important thing was the 3 points to keep level with City.

As a lifelong United supporter I can’t see City losing to QPR next Sunday.

However, it’s not impossible for them to grab a draw to get themselves 38 points and stay in the Premiership.

People say about Mark Hughes, and his ties to United, but it’s got fuck all to do with United for him. He has a monumental job to do, and a draw at the Etihad would suit his team perfectly.

Yes, there’s also the small matter of us beating Sunderland too.

    Not easy. Big weekend ahead.

Hughes being in charge of QPR makes little difference, it’s like saying that Joey Barton will play better next week because he played for the Blue Side of Manchester.

Besides, Hughes managed Manchester City. If he’ll try to throw a spanner into the works, it’ll be because of that and not because he was once at United.

How about a nod to Ashley Young..

Brought down from behind in the area and denied a clear penalty, but just got up and got on with things. But thats not a story, is it?
