Wayne Rooney Asks To Leave Man Utd For Second Time, Club Claim He’s Not For Sale

Soccer - Barclays Premier League - Manchester United v Manchester City - Old Trafford

First Fergie decides to call it quits, now some bugger within the Manchester United camp has apparently leaked that Wayne Rooney filed a transfer request a fortnight or so ago. Looks like this summer may be an interesting one at Old Trafford.

It is being reported by just about every major news outlet this morning that, during an “informal chat” with Sir Alex two weeks ago, Rooney told his boss that he feels the time is right to move on this summer and take on a fresh challenge somewhere else – with the likes of Bayern Munich and PSG being bandied around as potential suitors.

Being as though it was a fortnight ago, it’s pretty much certain that Rooney’s decision wasn’t anything to do with former manager David Moyes being all but named as Ferguson’s successor – what with all that nasty “autobiography libel” business that went down between the pair a few years ago.

In fact, Rooney’s decision has apparently been brought on by being constantly played out of position during the second half of the season and being dropped in favour of Danny Welbeck for the Champions League double-header against Real Madrid.

For what it’s worth, United have nixed the gossip, claiming: “Wayne Rooney is not for sale,” though experience shows anything a football club states regarding transfers should be taken with a garden trowel-full of salt.

Last time Rooney started agitating, United threw £250,000-a-week his way to quieten him down, though that deal is now due to expire in 2015 and, with Rooney approaching 28 and looking just about past his prime, it’s unlikely that the club will break the bank once again to persuade him to stick around if this rumoured transfer request actually turns out to be kosher.

What sayeth thou United fans? Would you miss Roon? Or could the money raised by his transfer be put to much better use?

To be honest, if I’d left a job where they’d essentially made me the man I am today (on the salary I’m on); done a little shit on my old boss’s doorstep; written graffiti about him on the side of the building; got drunk with him down the Feathers and kind-of-sorted-it-out-but-not-really-because-there’s-still-tension and then found out he was going to be my new boss at work, I’d probably think about changing job, too.

More tantrums from him, I think its time to let him go. last couple of seasons have shown that he isn’t the force he used to be. In the end no oneis greater than the club!

If I was a Utd fan I would offer to drive him to the European city of his choice and buy him 20 Silk Cuts as a parting gift too.

Enough is enough, see you later rooney and dont let the door hit you on the way out. will always defend your talent, may not have worked out quite as expected but youve been a rock at utd for a good long time. Need to ensure we replace him wisely, falcao would be nice

Goodbye Wayne and thanks for the good times. Unfortunately these have been few and far between recently. Take the £25-30m and re-invest in someone who looks like they give a shit rather than someone who barely looks fit half of the time.

latest news is that van persie wants to go back to arsenal after the trophy ceremony on sunday :)

I would test in midfield next season. If he turns out to be a great midfielder, then let’s keep him. If not, sell the guy because he definitely sucks as a striker, to me. Too irregular for Man Utd.

There’s a lot of strikes who can score/creat more goals than Rooney, and they are cheaper.

Kind of reminds me of Totti or Riquelme. Not in style of play but in how if they are the focal point, and only focal point, of a side then they play like kings. But on off-days the whole team sucks. A team isn’t made or broken on a single player, true, but these three sure make that almost the case.

That said, sell him. My prediction: PSG with Ibra moving back to Italy.

Careful steve-0, I dared to criticise Totti on here once and nearly got lynched. Comparing him to Rooney – you’ll be next!!
