Dive of the day? Cristiano Ronaldo vs Jonathan Woodgate

Boro seem to think that Ronaldo dived to win Man Utd’s game-winning penalty, and no doubt Ronaldo-haters will think he went down to easily. Bollocks. It’s not a dive and the ref was right to award a penalty. Woodgate clearly caught him, end of story. I also think there’s an element of truth in Fergie’s claim that Boro (and other teams) have a ‘guilt complex’ about Ronaldo. For his part, Ronaldo said ‘Maybe some people don’t like me. Maybe I’m too good…’ Right on both counts.

  1. Dan says:

Please can you post the Morrison tackle on Ronaldo, which I enjoyed much more than the penalty

  2. Jay says:

Rubbish. If you look closely, you’ll see there’s hardly any contact. Stupid of Woodgate to attempt such a tackle on such a dive-happy player, but this was never a penalty.
And, for the record, I don’t like Boro at all and I do hope that Man U win the title, but hopefully with a few less dodgy spot kicks.

  3. Col says:

It’s one of them if Woodgate hadn’t gone to ground would it have been given i think. If he’d have just clipped him he probably would have got away with it. Like most penalties, you go to ground you have a 75% chance of a spot kick. Unless you perform an amazing tackle like Carragher’s in the Liverpool United match.
I’m undecided about Ronaldo though, he could see schwarzer coming, that might have made him decide to hit the floor….

  4. Peter says:

dive. all the way. not even close.

  5. Em says:

Watch Ronaldo’s right foot. It gets caught first on Woodgate’s right leg and then, as Woodgate falls, catches between his legs.
    It was always a penalty.

  6. Joe says:

He touches Ronaldo with the side of his leg. The kid should be banned for these, so he’ll learn.

  7. Justin says:

Woodgate doesn’t seem to think Ronaldo dived in this instance, so why should the rest of us?
“I don’t know if it was a penalty but Ronaldo is a very clever player. He is one of the best in the world and whether it was a penalty or not, I don’t know. I couldn’t honestly tell myself,” he said. “Ronaldo is a fantastic player. There is a touch of genius in him and to be fair he lights up the Premiership. I don’t think he dived so you can’t put the blame on him.”

  8. maniac says:

ronaldo is crap diving cheat cant do anything without cheating and is known as the best footballer in the world ha ha
