Owen Hargreaves in training

Good news! Manchester United have announced that midfielder Owen Hargreaves is scheduled to appear in a reserve game at Altrincham next Thursday.

Hargreaves has been sidelined since September 2008 with a recurring knee injury but United manager Sir Alex Ferguson seems optimistic that the 29 year old is closer to a full return than ever;

“Owen has shown for the first time that he is almost ready to play. He has been training with the first team, which has been good to see and is pencilled in for a game with the reserves on Thursday.”

It was reported earlier in the year that Hargreaves would be sidelined for the remainder of the season, but it seems he may now be on target to rejoin the squad in time for United’s tricky title run-in.
