Just months after a Manchester United fan leapt to his death in Nairobi after watching his side lose 1-0 to Newcastle, we have another instance of shockingly extreme post-match overreaction in Kenya.
Apparently an “ardent” Liverpool fan was stabbed to death at a bar in the town of Meru on Sunday by a livid Arsenal fan who was incensed after watching his side whimper their way to a 5-1 defeat at Anfield.
According to Standard Digital news, the trouble began brewing when the Liverpool fan began celebrating ever mistake Arsenal were making and continually goading the Arsenal fan about the scoreline.
Tensions then reached a head at the final whistle, when the enraged Arsenal fan reportedly stabbed the Liverpool supporter – later identified as a man named Anthony Muteitha – and “left him for the dead outside the bar.”
Muteitha was then rushed to Meru’s Level Five hospital, but sadly died of his injuries shortly thereafter.
Meru police chief, Tom Odero, has announced that the assailant is still at large and that a manhunt has been launched to bring him to justice – adding that police have impounded a motorbike that the assailant was allegedly seen riding before the game.
Hey, Kenya? Calm down a bit, yeah?
