Bayern Munich have banned the The Sun and The Mirror from the Allianz Arena for the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final against Manchester United after both papers ran with “personally insulting” puns about Bastian Schweinsteiger after the first leg at Old Trafford on Tuesday evening.

Both variations on a similar theme, The Sun opted for “You Schwein!”, while The Mirror upped the ante somewhat and plumped for “You Dirty Schwein” in relation to an incident that saw the Bayern midfielder sent off for having the audacity to try and dispossess Wayne Rooney.

Schwein, we’re fairly sure we don’t have to point out, is the German word for pig.

A statement issued on Bayern’s official website denounced the headlines as “disrespectful , discriminatory and personally insulting” towards Schweinsteiger – adding that the two tabloids responsible will not be welcome for the second leg next Wednesday:

“In the Champions League…UEFA has organised a big campaign called ‘RESPECT’ where all players are required to wear that logo on their shirts.

“Due to breaching this agreement when four attendees at our game with Arsenal showed a disrespectful banner in the Allianz Arena, 700 fans will now be locked out (of the United game) and we were fined €10,000. We have accepted this.

“(Therefore) representatives of ‘The Daily Mirror’ and ‘The Sun’ will not be granted media accreditation at the Allianz Arena for the Manchester United match.”

The banner in question being the rather pathetic Ozil-baiting “Gay Gunners” flag hoisted proudly aloft by a couple of dim Bayern fans during the last-16 tie against Arsenal last month – a banner which, if you look closely, you can see took two attempts to get right…

Good for Bayern. It’s Bayern Munchen in German or Bavaria Munich in English. Only in England

Nowadays rascism and not respect the rivals is one of the problems that have UCL. They concern in every match that is wrong but the problem stills beeing there. That happens in every country and they have to solve this as soon as posible.
