Bayern Munich 3-1 Manchester United – Champions League Quarter-Finals 2nd Leg – 9th April 2014

Manchester United gave European champions Bayern Munich a scare in Germany on Wednesday night, producing a disciplined defensive first-half display before taking the lead, courtesy of Patrice Evra’s superb strike on 57 minutes. However, that second-leg lead would last for all of two minutes as the home side ultimately won the game 3-0.

An apparently unfit Wayne Rooney was disappointing throughout a game in which Bayern, unsurprisingly, dominated possession. The Germans struggled to find the key to unlock United’s backline but after Mario Mandzukic’s equaliser on 59 minutes, they started to find gaps, with Thomas Muller and Arjen Robben also getting on the scoresheet.

A decent display from David Moyes’ men but with qualification for next season’s tournament dead and buried, it could be some time before the Red Devils return to Europe’s big stage. After all, remember Leeds United?
