Given that they probably won’t be needing it around the place much any more, the ‘The Chosen One’ banner which has been hung in the Stretford End at Old Trafford for the past ten months is to be taken down ahead of Manchester United’s game against Norwich this coming Saturday, and it looks like it may end up in the National Football Museum.

‘The Chosen One’ was, of course, a reference to Sir Alex Ferguson hand-picking his successor, one David William Moyes, at United – though that all went tits-up in a hurry.

BBC Sport are reporting that the group who had the banner made to inaugurate Moyes last May, Stretford End Flags, have contacted the National Football Musuem and asked whether it would be welcomed as a donation.

Apparently a spokesman for Stretford End Flags has told BBC Sport that donating the banner “was one of a number of options under consideration”.

A National Football Museum spokesman added: “Every object within our collection needs to fit within our strict collections guidelines.

“We are offered objects on a regular basis and while we are always grateful for these offers, we often have to decline for reasons of space and because it doesn’t fit within our guidelines.”

Well, if there’s room for a giant rhinestoned statue of Michael sodding Jackson at the National FOOTBALL Museum, then surely they can free up a corner for a couple of metres of printed tarpaulin?

If they want something of historical value, perhaps they could use all of Manchester United’s records that Moyes managed to shatter when he took over?

Do Manchester United think that everything they do is of national importance?

Welcome to the Premier League circus Man U fans. It’s a different world without you-know-who pulling the strings at Old Trafford and St George’s Park.
